Wellness Visits for Cats & Dogs in Chandler, AZ

Partners in keeping your pet healthy, year after year.

Wellness Exams at Paw Partners Veterinary Clinic

Whether your pet is a playful puppy, a curious kitten, or a cherished senior, your pet’s needs are unique — and so is our approach to care.

At Paw Partners Veterinary Clinic, Wellness Exams go beyond vaccines. They’re about keeping your pet happy, healthy, and comfortable at every stage of life. Just like an annual physical for people, pets should be examined at least once a year — and even more often (every six months) if they are seniors (7+) or managing chronic conditions.

Because pets, especially cats, are experts at hiding illness, routine exams are essential for early detection. Many conditions like kidney disease, heart issues, diabetes, and cancer can develop silently and gradually. With regular Wellness Exams and diagnostic testing, we can identify problems in their earliest stages — when treatment is more effective, less costly, and offers the best chance for a long and healthy life.

Our unique approach:

  • Partnering with pet parents through education and clear communication
  • Local and personalized service tailored to your pet’s needs
  • Cost-conscious pricing and flexible payment options

We know budgeting for veterinary care can be challenging, which is why we offer 0% interest payment options. You can even apply ahead of time to make your visit seamless. Click here to learn more about our financing options.

At Paw Partners, we’re more than a clinic — we’re your lifelong partner in your pet’s healthcare. And that partnership starts with a Wellness Exam.

Wellness Packages - No monthly fees, no yearly commitment, no fine print

Taking a preventative approach to pet care allows us to catch serious health conditions and diseases early—often before signs develop. Our dogs and cats are family, and because they can’t tell us when something feels off, routine care is their best voice.

We rely on thorough exams alongside annual blood, urine, fecal, and parasite testing to give your pets the best opportunity for a long, happy, and healthy life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s Included in a Wellness Exam for Cats and Dogs?

Every pet is unique, so we tailor each exam to your pet’s age, breed, and lifestyle. A typical Wellness Exam includes:

1. Comprehensive nose-to-tail physical exam (including rectal exam if needed)

2. Vital signs check: heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and weight

3. Anal gland expression (if needed)

4. Microchip scan: verify or check for an existing microchip

5. Body Condition Score: evaluation of your pet’s weight (too thin, ideal, or overweight) with nutrition and weight management guidance

6. Dental check: a cursory oral exam to look for signs of dental disease

7. Discussion with the veterinarian: address minor concerns, questions, and observations you may have about your pet’s health

8. Health assessment: combining exam findings, vital signs, medical history, and your input to provide personalized recommendations for your pet’s well-being

How often should my pet have a Wellness Exam?

Pets age (1+) should have an annual Wellness Exam.  Senior pets (7+) or pets with chronic health issues should be seen for Wellness Exams at least every six months. Occasionally, it may be recommended for your pet to be seen quarterly depending on the severity of the chronic condition.

For puppies and kittens: please see the schedule under puppy and kitten services below

Kitten Vaccinations

What’s the difference between a Wellness Exam and a Sick Visit?

Wellness Exams focus on preventive care and overall health. They include a comprehensive physical exam, screening for early signs of illness, and managing chronic conditions (such as Valley Fever, arthritis, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or kidney disease).

Sick Visits are scheduled when your pet is experiencing new or worsening symptoms. For example:

  • A dog with heart disease who suddenly develops a cough

  • A change in the frequency/severity of an existing symptom

  • A medication that was effective but is no longer working

Wellness Exams = routine and preventive care
Sick Visits = new or concerning changes in your pet’s health

Does my indoor-only cat still need a Wellness Exam?

Yes. Even if your cat never goes outside, regular Wellness Exams are just as important as an annual physical exam for people. Cats are experts at hiding illness, and routine check-ups are the best way to catch issues early.

  • Hidden health concerns — Dental disease, weight changes, and other subtle signs may point to underlying problems that aren’t obvious at home.

  • Vaccinations — Some vaccines remain important, especially in multi-cat households.

  • Shared environment — Indoor-only cats who live with dogs may still be exposed to what the dog brings in from outside.

Wellness Exams provide the preventive care your cat needs for a longer, healthier, and more comfortable life.

Will my pet receive vaccines during the Wellness Exam?

Yes. While vaccines are not included in the Wellness Exam fee, they can be administered during the same visit. Syncing vaccines with Wellness Exams is a win-win: it ensures your pet stays up to date on important preventive care, and it saves you (and your pet) an extra trip to the clinic.

My pet isn’t due for vaccines. Do I still need to schedule a Wellness Exam?

Yes! Even if your pet is fully up to date on vaccines, Wellness Exams are still essential. Pets can’t tell us when something feels off, and many health issues — such as dental disease, arthritis, kidney problems, or early diabetes — may not show obvious signs until they are more advanced.

Annual Wellness Exams allow us to detect these issues early, when treatment is more effective and often less costly. If your pet doesn’t need vaccines at their exam, we’ll do our best to sync future vaccine schedules with their Wellness Exams for added convenience.

How can I get my pet’s rabies certificate?

Your pet's rabies certificate is available on the Pet Portal and will also be printed on your invoice the day of service. You can also see a complete list of your pet’s upcoming Reminders for services and request prescription refills on the Pet Portal.

What if dental cleaning is recommended for my pet?

If you schedule the Dental Cleaning during the Wellness Exam we can add-on the pre-anesthetic bloodwork and draw the labs at the time of the wellness appointment. This saves you time and a repeat visit to the clinic.

Is Bloodwork necessary at a Wellness Exam?

Bloodwork is suggested for checking “under the hood”. It is important to see if things on the inside are functioning correctly as a physical exam can only tell so much about your pet’s health. The bloodwork also serves as a baseline or benchmark for comparison values if needed in the future.

What if my pet needs Anal Gland Expression more often than annually?

We offer a variety of Technician Services that can be scheduled periodically or scheduled on a recurring basis. Your veterinarian will indicate how frequently you should schedule a Technician Service for additional Anal Gland Expression.

What do you look for in my pet’s stool (feces) with the sample I bring?

At Paw Partners Veterinary Clinic, we take intestinal parasites seriously. The stool sample will be analyzed with an advanced diagnostic method to accurately screen for the most common and clinically relevant intestinal parasites.
