For soft tissue surgeries, most pets recover within 10–14 days. For orthopedic surgeries, the recovery process is longer. We’ll give you clear at-home care instructions for you to follow throughout the entire recovery period.
Compliance with at-home care instructions is crucial to facilitate the best, fastest, and most effective recovery.
Yes. Paw Partners only provides care during business hours. Pets will be discharged between 2-5pm same day. In the unlikely event your pet needs 24 hour monitoring post surgery, we will help facilitate transfer to a 24 hour facility.
The “cone,” officially called an Elizabethan collar (E-collar), is an important protective device that keeps your pet from licking, chewing, or scratching at the surgical site. While it may look uncomfortable, it helps incision site dehiscence (incision opening), prevent infections, and encourages healing.
Pets often try to groom, lick, or chew at areas that feel itchy or strange after surgery or during healing. Even a few minutes of licking can remove stitches, reopen wounds, or introduce bacteria. The E-collar ensures your pet’s recovery stays on track and saves them from complications that could require additional treatment and costs.
Most pets adjust to the collar within a day or two — and it’s only temporary! Once your veterinarian confirms healing is complete, your pet can go back to being cone-free.
